Col’Cacchio Established in 1992, Col’Cacchio pizzeria is a name that has become synonymous with truly traditional Italian food, including crisp thin based pizzas and an impressive variety of freshly prepared salads and pastas. In 2011 Col’Cacchio made Wildlands the beneficiary of their popular Celebrity Chef Series. Eskom provides our organisation with solar water heating which goes into the communities as part of our Sustainable Communities Programme, through their donations we are able to provide rural households with heated water, while not contributing to the electricity demands of our nation. We are working with eThekwini Municipality’s dedicated Environmental Management Department on the Buffelsdraai Community Reforestation Project for which we are the implementing partner, the aim of this project is to reforest this environmentally degraded area and restore it to its former beauty. eThekwini have also funded an educational theatre production by Ellis Pearson to illustrate the potential effects of climate change.http://www.durban.gov.za
Game together with our organisation are holding tree plantings, whereby their staff assist us to plant the trees which are grown by our tree-preneurs and. These trees are then planted in our various reforestation programmes with the aim of restoring previously degraded areas. Intel and Pinnacle are supporting and facilitating the rollout of computer labs to schools in disadvantaged communities. This initiative is being implemented by ourselves as part of our Sustainable Communities Programme with the end goal of improving the livelihoods of the children growing up in these communities. Investec Private Bank have been hugely supportive of our projects and events. Mercedes-Benz South Africa (previously DaimlerChrysler) have been supporters of our organisation for a number of years, starting with the Khula Information Office in St Lucia. NLTDF provide financial support for our Conservation Space Programme our activities throughout KwaZulu-Natal. Particular focus this year will be on the construction of a tourism facility at the Tshanini Community Conservation Area and the development of a heritage centre near St Lucia. They also provide funding for our Sustainable Communities Programme and in particular to our Recycling initiative in and around Pietermaritzburg. Richards Bay Mineral (RBM) has been supporting our organisation since 1991. Their organisation contributed to various projects including the ICC Rhino and the development of the Centenary Centre in iMfolozi Game Reserve. Stuttaford Van Lines donates in the form of delivery of bicycles to our rural communities which are bartered for trees/recyclables at our Green Futures stores as part of our Sustainable Communities Programme. These bikes are also made available to our community facilitators as a means of free clean transport while they work to manage our tree-preneurs and spread the word about our organisation. Umfulana have donated funds for the planting and care of trees in the Mkhuze Riverine Forest Carbon Sink initiative. This donation is part or Umfulana’s commitment to offsetting some of the carbon emmission produced by their clients when flying to Southern Africa and other destinations around the world. Clients are given the option, when booking thier tour, to pay a voluntary carbon offsetting fee, which Umfulana gives our organisation to implement. CAP (Climate Action Partnership) is an alliance of six of South Afica’s largest green NGO’s namely: Conservation International , Wilderness Foundation , WESSA (Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa), EWT (Endangered Wildlife Trust), Botanical Society of South Africa and ourselves. Critical Ecosystems Partnership fund have made a US$6.65 million investment in the Maputaland-Pondoland-Albany Global Biodiversity Hotspot. In this role our organisation is responsible for soliciting, designing and awarding grants to civil society organisations and community groups that will protect biodiversity in the Hotspot and strengthen the role of civil society in conservation in South Africa, Swaziland and Mozambique.They provide grants for nongovernmental and private sector organizations to help protect biodiversity hotspots, Earth’s most biologically rich yet threatened areas.http://www.cepf.net
We work closely with Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife (EKZNW) in and around formally protected areas to ensure the effective management of the regions bio-diversity. Many of our Bonitas Wild Series events take place in their reserves which provide competitors with a unique setting and experience. Living Lakes works with our organisation and the Wilderness Foundation are the South African partners working on a range of projects around Lake St Lucia in the iSimangaliso World Heritage Site. Qhubeka provide bicycles that can be bartered at our ‘Green Futures’ stores as part of our Sustainable Communities Programme. These bicycles are transported to the communities by Stuttaford Van lines. These bicycles allow community members to reach their destination cheaply and with little negative effect on the environmentines Qhubeka (‘Moving us forward’) is a non-profit organisation working to provide bicycles to rural children that are suitable for the area in which they live.http://www.qhubeka.com
Project Rhino KZN was born out of the need for the large number of different organisations raising funds, and implementing rhino conservation projects in KwaZulu-Natal, to collaborate more closely, allowing a more credible and effective use of funds raised. Zululand Hunters have negotiated a 10-year lease agreement for the Somkhanda Nature Reserve with Zululand Hunters and the Gumbi community (which will ensure the future of the reserve) and by providing ongoing support for the development of an ecotourism partnership with the eLan Property Group. They also provide ongoing support for the Gumbi people living in the surrounding area. Zululand Hunters offer the possibility to hunt on approximately 90,000 ha of the richest game areas in Zululand and Thabazimbi.http://www.zululandhunters.co.za
