You
YOU Going Wild
Never mind climate change, humanity’s disconnection from nature is one of the biggest threats to a sustainable future for us on this planet!
We’ve forgotten where our food, water and shelter come from, we’ve forgotten that we rely on nature to survive. Many have even forgotten the beauty and wisdom nature provides. One of the ways we aim to bridge this ever-increasing gap it to give people a chance to experience the beautiful wild places in Africa, through sport, nature walks and hands-on wildlife experiences.
NATURE WALKS
Rhino Trek
In October 2010, Wildlands and partners, Save the Rhino International, held the first Rhino Trek – a 5 day guided walk through the Somkhanda Community Game Reserve and the Zululand Rhino Reserve (ZRR) – an important area and potential corridor for black rhino. Participants walked approximately 18km a day and ended with a night at the Rhino River Lodge in ZRR and a visit to the anti-poaching unit in iMfolozi Game Reserve which the event raised funds for. Each participant needed to raise funds over and above the cost of their participation for rhino conservation projects and law enforcement equipment in Somkhanda, ZRR and iMfolozi Game Reserves.
The next Rhino Trek will be held from the 6th – 13th May 2012. For more information click here or visit www.savetherhino.org.
VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCES
Corporate Volunteer Weekends
Wildlands Corporate Volunteer Weekends are centred around environmental experiences such as a visit to a reserve or an environmental education centre together with an activity contributing to one of our existing projects. Historically these weekends focused on the staff of our corporate partners but we have now also introduced combined weekends where Wildlands green-preneurs join the group for the weekend, giving them an opportunity to learn from and inspire each other.
If you would like to participate in a Corporate Volunteer weekend, please contact Simone Dale on 033 343 6380 / 082 421 4418 or e-mail simoned@wildlands.co.za.
Rhino Darting
To raise funds for Wildlands Rhino Conservation Project, Wildlands organises tailored group experiences with world renowned Game Capture teams where guests can assist with fitting rhino with GPS tracking units in several Game Reserves in Northern KwaZulu-Natal. Guests often spend three days and two nights in the reserve and the package includes all meals, drinks, game drives and accommodation. Guests join veterinarians in tracking the rhino and gain first-hand experience, assisting the team of experts in caring for the rhinos once they are darted and keeping them calm whilst state-of-the art GPS units are fitted in their horns. These units will allow for real-time tracking of rhinos, thus ensuring their continued monitoring and keeping them safe from would-be poachers.
These experiences are perfect as a corporate gift package for your top clients or a team building experience for your staff.
If you would like to participate in a Rhino Darting experience, please contact Simone Dale on 033 343 6380 / 082 421 4418 or e-mail simoned@wildlands.co.za.
